Abstract: This document is an English/Language Arts units plan for high school students based on South Carolina instructional standards and revolving around the Holocaust and the text Parallel Journeys. The unit deals with the genre of non-fiction; it addresses the definition of nonfiction, the elements non-fiction writing shares, what non-fiction enables writers and readers to do, and its applications to history. The unit comprises of 15 lesson plans, each of which includes an overview of key understandings from the unit, relevant unit questions, the South Carolina Academic standards to which the lesson applies, and a list or teacher and student procedures organized by lesson segment, instructional strategies, teacher activities, and student tasks. Each lesson plan also includes a list of required materials and resources. The unit plan also includes a pre- and post-assessment worksheet and assignment description, as well as a bibliography.
